inweskersdesk[Jill had taught her how to hold the strange little communication device correctly. She takes a deep breath and speaks carefully and clearly.]
This is Of-, er, this is Rebecca Chambers. Despite my age, I have degrees in chemistry and medicine as well as training and a little too much experience in field medicine. Now that I'm settled in here I really want to be of some help to the people in this town. So if there's somewhere that I can be of use, especially medically, I'd really like to know. Thank you!

Date: 2011-02-03 12:51 am (UTC)Yes, please. Specially if you're able to make medicines. I've been making them as needed but I only know so much. I studied under a Doctor for a year and a half before she left a few months ago... but I'm no pharmacist.
What medicine are you making right now?

Date: 2011-02-03 01:00 am (UTC)When ground up and combined in certain ways these herbs can heal minor cuts and scrapes, and oddly enough, zombie bites. I worked with them a lot just before I was brought here. They saved my life a few times.
What sort of medicines and supplies do you have at the hospital?

Date: 2011-02-03 01:09 am (UTC)We have mostly pain killers and some anti-inflammatory. We also have some anesthetics but we're running dangerously low on those since they're used for chip removals, mostly. There are some herbs and things in the green house, but not much.

You say you've done minor surgery before... could you elaborate on that, please?

Date: 2011-02-03 04:55 pm (UTC)It's tedious and a bit stressful. Like with any operation, anything can go wrong but I've removed a few now and I'm feeling confident. However, I'd like to teach others in case I end up being sent back to the world I came from.
The biggest concern in regards to the chip removal process lately is the fact we're running low on anesthetics.

W-Well, a few more have just down up... so I haven't a total just yet but before that it was just Doctor Cuddy. I'm not a doctor but I'm the only person working at the hospital right now who can perform chip removals.
Normal cases are of injury or infection, from lack of medical care. People tend to think they can get along without tending to their body, most times because they're not used to having a chip and how it might affect their bodies. There have been a few waves of illness, like flu, colds, and others but the majority of everything is injuries.

Wait, do you really only have two people working? With a place this size I expected there to be more! I met Doctor Cuddy briefly and she seemed quite harried. I guess that makes sense now... Would it be possible to train more people to help with operations?
[And as for refusing medical care...that's all too familiar as well. In addition to training people for that, it might also be a good idea to train some people in basic first aid to send out on patrols. Since coming here I've run into quite a few cases of people being attacked and not wanting to go to the hospital or not being able to make it.

Well, no... we have some assistants with first-aid knowledge and two nurses but we're all very limited, I'm afraid. I have seen a few new faces here but I'm not sure if it's temporary or not.
I'm looking to train people but it's been a bit difficult finding people, as well as time.
We used to have doctors here who lead classes in first aid, but they've recently ere returned to their homes and, ah... things have been hectic. I make house calls as often as I can, just because of those reasons...

She stitches up the gash carefully and applies the ground up herbs to help with the healing. She then uses bandages to dress and bind his shoulder into place.]
Try not to move your shoulder too much for awhile and the bandages will have to be cleaned and replaced every day. Can you tell me where you live so I can come to you or would you rather come to me to do that?

[She pulled the collar of her dress open to reveal the crook of her neck and shoulder wrapped in bandages.]
I have done my best in keeping the wound clean but I do not have the necessary herbs to help heal the wound. Needless to say... I am a little worried that it will not heal properly.
